Christmas Conference & Side Quests - 21 Dec 2025

 


Hey, What is up.

This week was a little hectic. We kicked off the week by doing our final dance practice then going to the Christmas conference the next day (Wed.) The bus driver that took us had a lit bus shifter handle, it was a massive carved wooden snake. (See pics and videos in album) At Christmas conf, our dance was bangin' I looked like a ganster. (Also see pics in the album) It wasn’t a competition, but if it were we would have won. I saw all my batch mates there, which was chill. Guys are doing fine.

Okay. I have been on the search for this for years, my mom will attest, because I had it once when I was a kid. My mom found and bought it and Me and Reece Coleman split this when I was 10. I found another yellow watermelon. Only the second time in my life. I’ve looked for years and finally found it in the Philippines. Quest achieved lol.

The other thing that we tried/found is glass bottled Gatorade. There are these sari-sari stores and they sell all these glass bottled drinks that are reusable which makes it cheap as beans. We’ve been searching for glass bottled Gatorade because supposedly, it is super good. My companion was correct, it was masarap.

As for the work, we could only work full days Thursday, Friday and Sat because of Christmas conf. But we still found 5 new friends (new people to teach) on Thursday. Romel and Adgardo are both progressing and I think they will be baptized. 

I had a lit gift of tongues moment on Friday. We had a ward Christmas party and for some reason I was just able to speak with everyone there and I felt very comfortable with Tagalog for like four hours. It was a very cool experience. The next day my Tagalog was chopped but we’re still getting after it. 

Other firsts this week, I peeled Cassava, I ate goat intestine stew (idk what it is actually called) and visited Damortis for a baptismal interview and on the way crossed a crazy bamboo bridge (see pics). When I came back over the second time, I just walked through the river…it felt safer. 

I received my first packages here, my Christmas packages from home. That was lit, glad they made it. I also found a tennis court in my area, which is sick. Wish I could play with Chad but he's a 3 hour flight away or something in Japan. Crazy he's the closet person from home besides like Tmoa and Michael Hardy.

What a week. We spent a lot of time walking around the Bukid and Bundock or farms and mountains. I think my butt its getting bigger or my pants are getting smaller cause I'm starting to get a little claustrophobic in those things, but its ok. That's why we have Ukay-Ukay, aka thrifting.  This week was chill, we had a lot of teachings and eleven new friends. We are working hard because my comp doesn't want to close out his mission trunky so we are locked in. As for fun things that happened this week: we held a lot of goats and chickens. It was a blast-- you can literally run up to a baby goat and just pick one up and a majority of the time they are just like, "Oh hi, how are you doing?" It's a blast. Today though we went to San Fernando and we had been off the bus for like 2 minutes when some dude came up to us and asked, "Are you guys missionaries?" Well hello there my fellow people, I hope that you are well and the sun has been shining in your life. If not, I hope that I can help provide a little sunshine or smile for you. These past two weeks have been interesting, that's for sure-- I've learned a lot about what I want to become, and what I want my mission to look like.  I had the opportunity to do exchanges with Elder Jessop, he was our formal AP for 10 months and he's in his last few transfers.  This experience was amazing, I have found it hard to explain the things that I learned to Elder Baker and Blaser. The largest thing though that really changed for me is numbers. I think I was just kinda like the rest of everyone around me, I didn’t like them but I "understood" why we have them. Then I had this exchange and I really learned why numbers are there. How many rolls is it socially acceptable to take at one time? - 6 Oct 2025

Kumusta po (hello, how are you doing) everyone? Sorry for wala (no) email last week, I was busy and really just didn't feel like writing one by the time that I was able to, so I'll cover what happened in this email. I've had the chance to try some crazy foods while I've been here. Its kinda wild but I've been enjoying it. I've eaten everything from chicken feet to some mango jello cream stuff. I can also say with full confidence that I have tried literally almost every part of the chicken aside from the head and it all tastes the exact same, the only thing that is different is the texture. So you might be a little curious about the title. Basically, the rolls here are the best thing I have ever had (sorry Bella they might top your bread.) These things are amazing. I'm averaging about 16 of them a day and if they served them at breakfast, I would probably be averaging 24 because they are so heavenly-- I don't know what they are putting into those things. ...
